In biology class today
I was told that butterflies are our friends
and within that same hour
I was also told that caterpillars were our enemies
and that doesn’t really make sense to me
because a few biology classes ago
I was told that caterpillars turn into butterflies

In any case
I don’t think friends should call their friend’s children enemies
or kill them
* * *
I think maybe we shouldn’t kill caterpillars
maybe we should let them grow into our friends
* * *
But then again
maybe that’s why I’m failing biology
